Singer claims he suffered life-changing hospital negligence

There is some risk with most medical care, but many risks can be limited for most patients with a careful following of procedures and policies. When medical professionals fail to follow basic standards of care, serious permanent damage can be a potential result for a patient. Louisiana residents may be interested in the claim of one singer who experienced poor care and medical management after an open heart surgery, and has filed a lawsuit for the hospital negligence he suffered.

The 74-year old singer, Marty Balin from Jefferson Airplane, was promoting a solo album when he began to suffer chest pains. After an evaluation at an emergency room, he had open heart surgery, triple bypass and a valve replacement. Due to the complex surgery, he was required to be placed in the intensive care unit. It was not the care during surgery that the man considers to be negligent, but the care after his surgery.

According to the claims of the lawsuit, the branch of the hospital where the singer was receiving care was in the process of closing. They claim that the hospital was understaffed and lacking key medical professionals. Despite complaining and questioning the quality of the care the singer was receiving, he and his wife claim that he continued to receive inadequate care. He lost his thumb to a poor intravenous line placement, and suffered bed sores, kidney damage, a paralyzed vocal cord and the loss of half of his tongue in a procedure that did not go well.

Unfortunately, hospital negligence such can occur at any time. As with this singer, an individual’s quality of life can be severely affected when permanent damage occurs. Louisiana medical malpractice attorneys are experienced with handling cases involving negligence and can help victims of negligence understand their options for legal recourse.
