Doctor prohibited from performing cosmetic surgical procedures

Thousands of people across the country undergo cosmetic procedures every day for a variety of different reasons. For example, a person living in Louisiana might undergo such a procedure for health reasons, while another person might undergo the same procedure for personal reasons. After the death of a patient, a doctor has been prohibited from performing surgical procedures, such as liposuction and other fat transfer procedures.

The patient, a 40-year-old woman, died while undergoing a popular procedure known as a Brazilian butt lift. During this procedure, fat is suctioned from the patient using a medical instrument called a cannula. This fat is then treated and grafted onto the patient. However, rather than grafting the suctioned fat onto the woman, the doctor injected it into her buttocks. An autopsy later revealed that the needle had been injected so deep into the patient that it had hit the gluteal vein, which allowed clots of fat to travel through the woman’s body.

This was also not the first patient to die at this surgical facility. In fact, it was revealed that the facility had changed names on multiple occasions after patient deaths. A medical expert, a certified plastic surgeon, also stated that the doctor who performed the woman’s surgery was not certified to perform the procedure. The doctor was trained in general surgery but not plastic surgery. As of now, the doctor in question is still able to perform some medical procedures, such as breast augmentation, but he is prohibited from performing procedures that involve liposuction or fat transfer.

Louisiana residents who have suffered due to medical errors made during surgical procedures could benefit from speaking with an attorney. Victims may be entitled to compensation for additional medical costs, pain and suffering, or other damages. If the patient dies as a result of these errors, then the family may also be entitled to compensation for funeral costs.
